The New London Fire Department's Office of Fire Prevention is responsible for life safety inspections of every building in the Town of New London, with the exception of 1 and 2-family dwellings. During the inspection process, all aspects of personal and life safety are accounted for such as clear egress routes, functional exit and emergency lighting, up-to-date fire extinguishers, fire alarm systems, and fire protection systems, among other things. The Office of Fire Prevention also reviews all plans for new fire protection systems installed within the Town of New London and issues the necessary permits when the requirements have been met. Additionally, all restaurants serving alcohol in the Town of New London must be inspected annually before the State of New Hampshire can renew their liquor license. Furthermore, any tents erected on public property greater than 400 square feet are required to be both permitted and inspected before being occupied.

The Office of Fire Prevention is also responsible for public education; conducting safety talks at various locations such as Kearsarge Elementary School, The Barn Playhouse, Hilltop Place, and Colby Sawyer College. Also available to our residents and businesses is a fire extinguisher training utilizing our training prop upon request. Each year, during Fire Prevention Week in October, the students from Kearsarge Elementary School come to the Firehouse for a brief class and a simulated scenario on evacuation in the event of a fire at home.
